Ulrich's Church in Langenbrand

The Protestant Ulrichskirche is a church building in Langenbrand , a district of Schömberg in the Calw district , Baden-Württemberg . The massive masonry lower part of the tower dates from the Romanesque period. The interior of the chancel tower's chancel differs from the usual construction methods in the region. The current nave was built in 1792/1793.

history

Up to a height of 12 meters, the tower dates from the Romanesque period (approx. 1080) and emerged from a chapel. The upper part with the bell house and the nave got its present form in the 18th century. The internal dimensions of the choir tower are 5.25 × 5.24 meters. In 1404 Langenbrand became an independent parish with branches. For this purpose, a 6-meter-long nave was added to the existing chapel of a castle, the west wall of the chapel (tower) was broken open and a Gothic choir arch was installed. Gothic windows were installed on the east and west sides of the chapel and the Gothic cross vault was created. The cross vault rests on 4 free-standing Romanesque columns, with the corners of the room being rounded. This spatial form with an inner choir square was not common in Germany; however, it is found in Spain, France and Italy. A column-supported chapel is also located in Schaffhausen .

In the choir tower of the church, painted around 1450, there are red-brown tendrils with leaves in light green / white on the reveal and arch surfaces. Two angels with seven-armed candlesticks and evangelist symbols can be found.
