Ulrike Schweikert (born November 28, 1966 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German writer of history and fantasy literature , who also writes under the pseudonym Rike Speemann .

Life

Schweikert went to school in Schwäbisch Hall and completed a banking apprenticeship in Stuttgart. After six years as a securities dealer , she studied geology and later journalism . In addition, she dealt with the history of her hometown. This research forms the basis for her first novel The Salt Boiler's Daughter , which was published in 2000. Today the author lives near Pforzheim .

In 2004 she received the Hansjörg Martin Prize for The Year of the Conspirators from the “Authors' group of German-language crime literature - The Syndicate ” . With Die Charité she won the LovelyBooks Readers Award in the historical novel category in 2018 .

Performances

In the summer of 2015, an adaptation of the novel "The Salt Boiler's Daughter" will be performed under the same title at the open-air theater in Schwäbisch Hall, right at the location of the assumed plot. It is the story of a committed woman who uncovered several crimes committed by "honorable" citizens of the city in the Middle Ages.
