Umarkhed is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The city is located in the Vidarbha region near the Painganga River .
The city is part of the Yavatmal district . Umarkhed has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 21 wards . It had a total of 47,458 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 24,268 were men and 23,190 women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of over 58%, followed by Muslims with over 34%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 88.27%, well above the national average.
