The Umcor AG , based in Zurich is an internationally active Swiss commodity trading company . Umcor specializes in the global trade, import and export as well as the distribution of ferrous and non-ferrous metals , especially copper . In April 2012 Umcor indirectly took over the majority of the copper-producing companies Montanwerke Brixlegg and Gindre Duchavany , both of which were previously owned by the Austrian conglomerate A-Tec Industries , through its Austrian sister company Umcor Holding GmbH . In September 2013 it was announced that the Russian copper producer UGMK had taken over 10% of the shares in Montanwerke Brixlegg. This report was only denied in 2014. Shares were never sold, although UGMK had been named as a co-owner on the Montanwerke website for a long time.

The company is considered extremely secretive and does not publish any business figures. The sales generated in 2006 are estimated by the Handelszeitung at 1.5 billion Swiss francs.
