The district Umerkot is an administrative district in Pakistan in the province of Sindh . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Umerkot .

The district has an area of ​​5608 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,073,146 inhabitants. The population density is 191 inhabitants / km². The Sindhi language is spoken by the majority in the district .

Demographics

Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew at an annual rate of 2.55%. Around 23% of the population live in urban regions and around 77% in rural regions. 557,557 men, 515,569 women and 20 transgender people live in 212,356 households , which results in a gender ratio of 108.1 men per 100 women and thus a common surplus of men for Pakistan.

The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 38% (women: 20%, men: 54%) and thus below the average of the Sindh province of 60%.
