Umm Nasan ( Arabic أم النعسان Umm an-Naʿsān ) is an island belonging to the State of Bahrain in the Gulf of Bahrain as part of the Persian Gulf .
location
The very flat island is 4 kilometers west of the main island of Bahrain and a good 25 kilometers east of the mainland of the Arabian Peninsula . It is a little over 5 kilometers long and up to 4 kilometers wide in a north-south direction.
Infrastructure and economy
Very few permanent residents live on Umm Nasan. The surface of the island is barren and almost devoid of vegetation; it has a desert-like character. There are still individual nomads who graze their animals here.
In the meantime, Umm Nasan is at least important in that the Bahrain Causeway , the only road connection between Bahrain and the mainland, now runs over the northern part of the island .
