Substation in Salzburg West

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Salzburg West substation is a system of Salzburg AG in the Salzburg district of Maxglan . It is characterized by a modern architectural design that is well worth seeing.

History and architecture

BW

The substation for the west of Salzburg was planned in 1996 by the Swiss architecture firm Bétrix & Consolascio (Marie-Claude Bétrix, Eraldo Consolascio) with Eric Maier , who already built the middle substation (built 1989–1995), the heating and power station north (1992–1995) and at that time also the controversial central heating power station (draft 1996, construction 1999-2003) designed. It was built from 1997 and completed in July 1999.

The facility is located in the middle of the Maxglan-Riedenburg settlement area , south of the Stiegl-Grunds , and can be seen from all sides. The building is a minimalist , inconspicuous, cuboid body. It was built from reinforced concrete and wood and is equipped with a single window and semi-transparent Profilit glass elements that only suggest the interior. Otherwise there is no indication of its function and it does not form a technical foreign body in the residential area. Each view has a different appearance. The interior surprises as a “ hortus conclusus ” and includes the power transformers , outdoor switchgear , workshops, control room and cable cellar.

Technical equipment and operation

The substation transforms the electrical voltage from the 110 kV distribution network of Salzburg AG to the medium voltage network with 30 kV for the supply of the surrounding urban areas.
