history

The Wilhelmsruh substation was commissioned by the then Bewag from the architect Hans Heinrich Müller between the years 1925 and 1926 and is located in Kopenhagener Straße 83, 85 and 89. The porcelain factory in Freiburg served as the basis for the design. Between 2004 and 2008, the building was converted into an office building according to plans by the architect Max Dudler .

description

The substation's facilities were housed in structures arranged around a courtyard; the oval waiting building forms the center. The tall switchgear building with its stepped rear front and the towering stair towers is located at the rear of the property, separated from the street area, while the elongated phase shifting hall is parallel to the street front and is closed off by a five-story residential tower on each side. The transformers were installed in the side wings between the phase shifting hall and the switchgear building. These are connected to the switch house with the high stair towers.

The brick facades are structured by stepped pilaster strips spanning multiple floors with segmental arches.
