The Ministry of the Environment of France (officially French Ministère de la Transition écologique et solidaire , in German : Ministry for the ecological and solidary transition ) is a cabinet department in the French government . The Minister and his cabinet are based in the Hôtel de Roquelaure, Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris . The central administration is located in the high-rise district of La Défense , in part of the Grande Arche and in the Tour Séquoia .

The first ministry in the field of environmental protection was established in France in January 1971 when Robert Poujade was appointed Assistant Minister for the Protection of Nature and the Environment in the Chaban-Delma Cabinet . Barbara Pompili has been Minister for Ecological and Solidarity Transition ( Ministre de la Transition écologique et solidaire ) since July 2020 .
