Environmental data catalog

The Environmental Data Catalog ( UDK ) is a metadata system for describing environmental data in public administration. The system was designed jointly by Germany and Austria (which has its own UDK). In Germany, the use and further development of the UDK software is based on an administrative agreement between the federal and state governments. The structure of the UDK software is designed in such a way that the data of the individual partners are kept separately in individual catalogs. Bavaria has its own development with the Environmental Object Catalog (UOK). Each federal state records and maintains its own data. In 2008, the UDK desktop application was replaced by a modern web application , the InGridCatalog . The InGridCatalog is an integral part of the Umweltportal Deutschland ( PortalU ). The environmental data catalogs of the individual federal states and the federal government can thus be maintained directly via the Internet with an associated editor. The InGridCatalog is based on the ISO 19115 and ISO 19119 -compliant UDK data model , which is currently being adapted to the technical requirements created by INSPIRE .

Switzerland, which was originally a partner of the German-Austrian development UDK, has developed the independent meta information system ENVIROCAT due to the requirement of multilingualism .

In the environmental data catalog are using metadata environmental data objects described. That is information in environmental informatics . They arise when real environmental objects (objects to be observed) are recorded by means of recording measures (e.g. measurement, observation) (data carrier). In addition to natural environmental objects such as B. Waters or biotopes also include anthropogenic environmental objects such as factories or roads. A typical data object is e.g. B. a series of measurements about a pollutant concentration in rivers. Higher aggregated data such as B. environmental reports , maps, pollutant emission registers, etc. are also counted among the environmental data objects.

Furthermore, spatial, time and technical references to the environmental data objects can be entered.
