Independent trade unionists in the ÖGB

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Platform for Independent Trade Unionists ( UG for short ) sees itself as an amalgamation of non-partisan and non-party lists at staff representation, works council and trade union level in the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB) .

The pillars of the basement

The UG has been a recognized parliamentary group since November 19, 1997 and the third largest group in the ÖGB. The UG is supported by independent and alternative trade union groups in the sub-unions. It is therefore to be classified as an umbrella organization. The individual groups are referred to as "basement pillars":

These three pillars are the founding groups of the UG. Added later:

  • UG-VIDA (Independent trade unionists in the vida union )
  • we4you / UG in the GPF .

Content

The UG states its goals and guidelines as follows:

  • significant reduction in working hours
  • fair distribution in all respects
  • Equality of all persons
  • Struggle for the benefit of the workers
  • Sustainability in dealing with the environment
  • transparency

Above all, the UG calls for more democracy within the ÖGB (e.g. direct elections throughout the ÖGB), a strengthening of autonomy (in particular independence from parties and the state) and the possibility of participation for union members. Accordingly, the UG initiates or participates in initiatives such as ArbeitsKlimaWandel or Sozialmilliarde.

The UG is also committed to the principles of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions, in particular to § 3 Paragraph 1:

“In pursuit of its purpose, the ÖGB is committed to a powerful contribution to the constant social, economic and cultural development of Austria, to maintaining the independence and neutrality of our country, to fighting fascism, every reaction and all totalitarian efforts, to helping to secure the World peace as well as the relentless struggle to raise the living standards of the workers in Austria and to work for equal opportunities between women and men called and committed. "

The UG seeks cooperation with other trade union and social groups with similar objectives in order to achieve its goals and content, but rejects any cooperation with right-wing extremist or right-wing populist and anti-democratic groups.
