Declaration of Independence of Liberia
The declaration of independence of Liberia is a declaration published on July 16, 1847 by the Liberian Constitutional Agreement, which basically states that the colony "Community of Nations Liberia" founded by the American Colonization Society was elevated to the new Republic of Liberia.
However , the declaration drawn up by Hilary Teague was adopted at the same time as the Republic of Liberia's first draft constitution and its validation. The anniversary of the declaration and the Basic Law are celebrated in Liberia as Independence Day.
The declaration expresses the story of the Ameriko-Liberians who settled in the community of nations. It also states that Liberia is an independent and free state. The statement notes the establishment of the colony by the American Colonization Society , as well as their resignation from government in favor of immigrant self-government. The Society fully encouraged Liberia's independence.
The Declaration relies in part on the United States ' Declaration of Independence , particularly with its emphasis on natural law. The list of injustices committed against the people also follows the American model.
