Montserrado County is an administrative region ( county ) in Liberia , it has a size of 1 909  km² and had 1,118,241 inhabitants at the last census (2008).

The administrative region is divided into five districts. The Liberian capital Monrovia is the county's largest city and has a special status. Bensonville is the capital of the county and is located in the district of the same name.

Notable locations include: Arthington , Brewerville , Careysburg , Clay-Ashland , Crozerville , Dixville , Millsburg, and Virginia .

Montserrado is on the Atlantic coast .

On the flag of Montserrado, an island with two trees and a house is depicted in the middle between a dark blue and red background. This indicates that on Providence Island in Montserrado, old and new cultures (indigenous ethnic groups and the former slaves who came from North America, see also ethnic groups in Liberia ) met.

politics

In the 2005 first Democratic Senate election after the Civil War, Joyce Musu Freeman was elected by the CDC . Mrs. Geraldine Doe-Sheriff , also from the CDC , received her Senate seat in 2009 in a special election.
