União das Freguesias de Lagos (São Sebastião e Santa Maria) , now mostly Freguesia de São Gonçalo de Lagos or Freguesias de Lagos , is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Lagos in the Algarve .
22,095 inhabitants live in the municipality on an area of 29.15 km² (as of 2011 figures).
The parish represents the actual inner city parish of the city of Lagos. After the patron saint of the parish, Gonçalo de Lagos (1360–1422) beatified in 1798, the parish that was newly formed in 2013 is often called São Gonçalo de Lagos.
It was created in the course of the regional reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 by merging the municipalities of São Sebastião and Santa Maria . São Sebastião became the seat of the municipality.
