Odiáxere is a small town and municipality in the Algarve in southern Portugal .
history
Finds prove a prehistoric settlement back to the Copper Age . Today's place probably dates from the Moorish period, on which the present town center was built after the Christian Reconquista . The place name derived from the Arabic Odi (for river) is another indication of its Arabic origin.
In the 16th century Odiáxere became an independent municipality. On July 1, 2003 Odiáxere was elevated to a small town ( Vila ).

Odiáxere is the seat of the municipality of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district of Lagos in the Faro district . 2984 inhabitants live here on an area of 31.9 km² (as of June 30, 2011).
The following municipalities border on Odiáxere: Mexilhoeira Grande in the northeast, Alvor in the east, São Sebastião (Lagos) in the west and Bensafrim in the northwest.

Culture, leisure and sights
- Forte da Meia Praia or Forte de São Roque de Lagos , local fortifications
- The Manueline - Baroque parish church Igreja Matriz de Odiáxere or Igreja Paroquial de Odiáxere , also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição after its patron saint , was built in the 16th century and is now a listed building.
- Ría de Alvor , a Natura 2000 reserve
- Odeáxere dam : the power plant below the dam is connected to the reservoir via a pressurized water pipe . Agriculture between Lagos and Portimão also draws water from this reservoir. Water sports and swimming are not allowed.
- The golf resort Palmares Golf Club is located between the town center and Meia Praia beach and has extensive, well-tended grounds.
- The Feira Agrícola de Odiáxere takes place every month , with agricultural products from the region

Odiáxere is connected to the Portuguese railway network via the Linha do Algarve stop, which is far outside the settlement core.
As a street settlement, the place is located directly on the narrow passage of the national road N125, via which the place is connected to junction 2 ( Odiáxere ) of the A22 motorway.
Local public transport is operated by the local bus company ONDA of the city of Lagos. With lines 3 ( Rosa ) and 8 ( Lilas ), two local bus routes go to the municipality of Odiáxere.
