Unión Juvenil Cruceñista

The Unión Juvenil Cruceñista ( Santa Cruz Youth Union ) (UJC) is a militant, right-wing extremist group from Santa Cruz , Bolivia . Founded in 1957 as an arm of the Pro Santa Cruz Committee ( Comite Pro Santa Cruz ), the UJC has recently been the subject of controversy and charges for its activities in support of the Santa Cruz Autonomy Movement against the government of Evo Morales and his political party MAS .

Claiming to have two thousand members, the UJC forcibly enforced the general civil strike called for by the Pro Santa Cruz Committee, intimidated and attacked left-wing opponents, created "security" for the Santa Cruz autonomy referendum on May 4, 2008, and took participated in violent clashes during the day of voting. Two members of the UJC were arrested and charged with planning an assassination attempt on Evo Morales on June 20, 2008. The police found a rifle with a telescopic sight and ammunition at an airport before the President's arrival.
