The Palais des Nations is the seat of the UNOG.

The United Nations Office in Geneva ( French Office des Nations unies à Genève , ONUG ; English United Nations Office at Geneva , UNOG ) is the second headquarters of the United Nations alongside the UN headquarters in New York . The UNOG together with various UN programs in the Palais des Nations in Swiss Geneva settled. The UNOG is headed by the Director General (with the rank of Under-Secretary-General), who is appointed by the UN Secretary-General , is directly responsible to him and acts as his representative.

Compared to the New York seat, the UNOG has less power in terms of power politics, since the most powerful institutions of the UN - UN Security Council , Secretary General of the United Nations and UN General Assembly - have their headquarters in New York.

The office is the workplace for around 1,600 employees and organizes more than 8,000 meetings annually for the UN itself, but also for other UN-related organizations.

Directors-General

The Director-General is responsible for all activities of the UNOG. He represents the Secretary General in Geneva and is thus the highest UN official in the city. He also accepts the accreditation letters from the permanent representatives.
