The University of Bío-Bío ( Spanish : Universidad del Bío-Bío ) is a university in Concepción and is one of the traditional universities of Chile .
history
The university was founded in 1947 as the Campus Concepción of the Universidad Técnica del Estado (UTE), under whose roof all of the country's technical faculties were brought together. In 1980 the campus became the University of Bío-Bío as part of a nationwide university reform. It is named after the Río Bío Bío , a river.
In its current form, the university was created in 1988 through the merger with the Instituto Profesional de Chillán , which emerged from the Ñuble campus of the Universidad de Chile (UCh) founded in 1966 .
The university was certified in 2009 by the National Commission for Accreditation (Comisión Nacional de Acreditación) for five years until 2014. According to the AméricaEconomía 2012 ranking, the university was ranked 17th within Chile and 151st in Latin America in the 2013 QS World University Rankings .
