The University of Nevada, Reno (also known as UNR or Nevada ) is a state university in Reno , in the western US state of Nevada . The college is the oldest university in Nevada and the second largest with 21,353 students (2016). The University of Nevada has a strong reputation in agricultural science , journalism , mining , seismology, and animal biotechnology .

history

The university was founded in Elko (Nevada) in 1874 and moved to Reno in 1885 . With the founding of the Desert Research Institute in 1960 and the Faculty of Medicine in 1967, the UNR became a modern research university.
