George Wilson Malone

George Wilson Malone (* 7. August 1890 in Fredonia , Wilson County , Kansas ; † 19th May 1961 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Republican Party and member of the Senate of the United States .

biography

After attending the University of Nevada at Reno , which he graduated from in 1917, he was drafted for World War I and served in the artillery . An unofficial career for the secret service in England and France may have started as early as 1919.

In any case, from 1927 to 1935 he was a state-employed engineer in Nevada and ran for the first time for the Senate in 1934, but was defeated by the member of the Democratic Party , Key Pittman , with about a third of the votes.

In 1944 he stood again for the Senate election and was narrowly defeated by the Democrat Pat McCarran with about 41 percent of the vote . In 1946 he succeeded in entering the Senate; he beat Democrat Berkeley L. Bunker with 55 percent of the vote . In 1952 he was re-elected, but in 1958 he was defeated by the Democrat Howard Walter Cannon .

During his time in Congress , he presented himself as an ultra-conservative right-wing senator of his party and remained active as an advisor after his election defeat in Washington DC. In 1960 he tried to be elected to the Nevada House of Representatives , which did not succeed.

George Wilson Malone was buried in Arlington National Cemetery after his death .
