Universitah meshuderet ( Hebrew אוניברסיטה משודרת; "Sent University"; engl. The University on Air or Broadcast University or more fully: Broadcast University Series Galei Zahal-Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli series of lectures on various academic topics that was developed in collaboration with Tel Aviv University and has been held since 1977 in Galei Zahal , the Defense Forces radio station being broadcast. Many of the courses were in book form by the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv issued. In the series Sifriyat Universitah meshuderet(“Library of the sent university”) around 400 titles have been published so far. The Ministry of Defense Publishing House was a publishing company operated between 1958 and 2009 under the Israel Defense Ministry.

The Universitah meshuderet series was initiated in 1977 by Mordechai Naor , who was the head of the station at the time. In the early 1960s, it was preceded by a series of university programs broadcast by the Voice of Israel ( Kol Israel ).

The program was originally conceived by Tirza Yuval (1943–2000), who led the project that has become her life's work until her death. The project was nominated for the Israel Prize .

From 2001 to 2013 the project was led by Hagai Boaz.

Lecturers who attended the series include professors such as Yeshayahu Leibowitz , Michael Harsegor, Yirmiyahu Yovel, Asa Kasher and many others, almost all members of the academic staff of Israeli universities .

The lectures were held in the context of semesters: Each semester comprises four or five topics (Sunday to Thursday), each of which comprises about thirteen half-hour programs that will be broadcast in the evening (8:30 p.m.) from 2016 onwards. In the past, each lecture was broadcast twice, repeated in the morning (6:30 a.m.).

The subjects at the broadcasting university came from a wide variety of fields, but subjects from the social sciences and humanities were preferred. The life sciences are also broadcasted, but there were fewer subjects in the fields of technology, mathematics and computer science, probably due to the more difficult verbal communication.

During the semester, the lectures can be heard online on the website of the armed forces at Galei Zahal . They can also be downloaded in MP3 format from the broadcaster's website.

In March 2015, the series changed its character and instead of the lectures there were talks between a moderator and a scientist. The moderators are Liad Mudrik, Ben Shani and Kobi Meidan.

There is also an English-language book series (called Broadcast University Series Galei Zahal - Tel Aviv ), also published by MOD Books , edited by Shmuel Himelstein.
