Colleges

The Michlalot (מכללות in Hebrew , “Academic Colleges” in English ) are academic institutions that, like universities of applied sciences, offer “undergraduate degree” programs and award recognized academic degrees ( Bachelor or Master ).

The sponsorship is usually state-owned, there are also universities in regional or private sponsorship. The admission requirements are usually less strict than at universities, but if they are private institutions, the tuition fees can be significantly higher than at state colleges or universities.

Many universities are under the academic supervision of a university or cooperate with them. The main difference to the universities is that doctorates and habilitation theses are not possible there, so these are generally not research institutions.

Some higher education institutions want to convert to universities in the longer term, but the decision can only be made by the government. With no target date, the Israeli government decided in 2005 to create a university in Ariel and Karmiel .

The names of the academic universities are listed with their English name and in alphabetical order according to their location.
