The University of Seoul , often, after the English name "the University of Seoul (UOS)," University of Seoul called, is an urban university in Seoul , capital of South Korea . The campus is located in Jeonnong-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, in northern Seoul.
history
The university was founded in May 1918 as the Keijō Public Agriculture School ( Japanese 京城 公立 農業 学校 ; Kor. 京城 公立 農業 學校 ) under Japanese rule . In June 1950 it was renamed Seoul Agricultural College ( 서울 농업 초급 대학 ) and in March 1956 the Seoul Agricultural College ( 서울 농업 대학 ), a 4-year college. In March 1974 it became the Seoul Industrial College ( 서울 산업 대학 ) because it abolished courses in agriculture and replaced them with city-related courses.
In October 1981, the college was renamed Seoul City University ( 서울 시립 대학 ; English Seoul City University ). It achieved university status in November 1986 and was renamed Seoul City University ( 서울 시립 대학교 ) in 1987 . Its English name was changed to the University of Seoul in July 1997 .
