The Universum Center in Ulm ( abbr. UC ) is an 82 m high- rise building in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, built in 1968 .

Construction and location

The skyscraper has 22 floors and is not far from Ehinger Tor between Hauffstraße, Neue Straße and Bismarckring. It is a hub between the west and east cities of Ulm with originally planned around 100 apartments, a restaurant on the 22nd floor and a now multicultural business center with a mosque , snack stand for Turkish cuisine and 29 shops on two levels. The architect of the building was HM Wein from Stuttgart. In April 1994 a fire destroyed the bowling alley on the ground floor and a year later in 1995 there was an arson attack with two dead. For a long time, in addition to the ADAC and the IKK, a Deutsche Bahn learning center was located in the UC. At the beginning of 2018, the city, apartment owners and the Ulmer Redevelopment Trust planned to make the high-rise into an attractive entrance to the Ulm poets' quarter.

Since July 2019 there has been an ice cream parlor and ice cream parlor as well as an art gallery in the UC, and the renovation of the entire outdoor facilities including the greening of many flat roofs and terraces with a volume of almost 1.5 million euros is ongoing.
