ECS ( Elitegroup Computer Systems , Chinese  精英 電腦 , Pinyin Jīng Yīng Diànnǎo ) is a Taiwanese manufacturer of computer hardware, mainly motherboards. The company was founded in Taipei / Taiwan in 1987 and is today managed by Chairman Johnson Chiang from Taipei / Taiwan.

In September 1994, ECS Elitegroup was the first motherboard manufacturer to be listed on the Taiwanese stock exchange. ECS now has branches in North America, Europe and various Pacific countries.

In 2008, more than 9500 people worked for ECS worldwide and produced over 21 million motherboards. That was about 15 percent of global demand for motherboards. Together with ASUSTeK (21 million), Gigabyte Technology (19 million) and MSI (16 million) , ECS was one of the four largest motherboard manufacturers worldwide.

In the meantime, ECS Elitegroup has expanded its development and production, partly through acquisitions, to include the production of notebooks, entertainment PCs from the DeskNote series as well as hardware components and multimedia products.

In 1998 Elitegroup was taken over by low-cost motherboard manufacturer PC Chips (Hsing Tech Enterprise Co., Ltd). Since Elitegroup had a slightly higher reputation, the name ECS Elitegroup was chosen after the two companies later merged. In 2000, ECS acquired the company Alphatop, the only supplier for the American computer manufacturer Apple iBook produced s. Among other things, ECS produced the PowerBook G4 12 "and the iBooks for Apple . In 2006, the notebook manufacturer Uniwill was taken over, making ECS ​​an important OEM in this market area too.
