Ossip K. Flechtheim Prize
The Flechtheim Prize for Democracy and Human Rights (also known as the Ossip K. Flechtheim Prize ) is an award intended to honor an extraordinary commitment to human rights . As a rule, it has been awarded every two years since 2002 to a public figure, project group or institution who is active in the scientific, political, ideological-philosophical or artistic field or through practical social engagement for the realization of humanistic values and goals has used.
The founder is the Humanist Association of Germany (HVD), which awards the prize for special achievements in the “promotion of education , tolerance and self-determination ” in German society. It is endowed with 10,000 euros (initially only 2,500 euros) and named after the futurologist Ossip K. Flechtheim .
In addition to the main prize for life's work, the Humanist Association of Germany also awards a “recognition prize”. In June 2004, Amnesty International received this award for the Section Group Against Human Rights Violations Based on Sexual Identity .
Lifetime Achievement Prize Winner
- 2002: Konrad Riggenmann ; has become known through his fight as a teacher against the mandatory cross in the Bavarian primary school classroom
- 2004: Peter Grottian ; Berlin social scientist
- 2006: Seyran Ateş ; Lawyer
- 2009: Michael de Ridder ; Doctor and patient rights activist
- 2011: Foundation Returning ; Foundation for the Promotion of Jewish Women in Art and Science
- 2013: Memorial T4 ; Project to commemorate the victims of the National Socialist "euthanasia" murders
- 2015: Mohamed Ibrahim and Shemi Shabat ; for her workshops on the Middle East conflict, which she has been running as a Palestinian-Israeli trainer team for students and multipliers since 2008.
- 2018: Dunja Hayali for her journalistic profession with "backbone, courage, empathy and self-reflection" (jury)
