The City Church of Our Lady is the evangelical church in the town of Gefell in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

location

The church and cemetery is located on an eastward slope on the southern edge of the town of Gefell in a peaceful setting. Federal highway 2 runs further south to Häuser from Leipzig to Hof and further. The parish includes six villages, including Dobareuth .

history

The church, first mentioned in a document in 1303, was rebuilt and enlarged in 1481. After a city fire in 1664–1670 it was repaired and demolished in 1799. A classicist new building erected in its place was renovated in 1864, 1922 and 1962.

In 1807 the Trampeli organ was installed , which Orgelbau Waltershausen restored in 1999 . The exterior plaster, the roof and the bell tower were also repaired . The installation of the electrical, heating and sound system is imminent.
