The Untere Kiliansteich was a reservoir in Saxony-Anhalt . It was an earth dam with a core seal made of turf slabs . The Büschengraben and possibly the Rödelbachgraben were dammed .
Description and history
The year of construction is not known exactly, but was under the direction of Georg Christoph von Utterodt and can therefore be dated to around 1700. The most likely time is 1703–1704 - when the other ponds of the reservoir cascade were built. The dam height was about 10 m, the size of the storage space 80,000 m³. The water level was at 428.90 m above sea level when it was fully dammed. The bottom outlet was designed as a wooden channel . The pond was provided with a water-side harrow frame.
The dam of the Lower Kiliansteich broke in 1901 during a flood. From 1990 the upper pond of the cascade was renovated and the Kiliansteich dam was built in place of the lower pond.
In the course of the renovation, the old wooden bottom drain was recovered on September 25, 1990 through an initiative by Erika and Siegfried Lorenz. After the long-term preservation at the Harz waterworks in Clausthal-Zellerfeld , which assumed the costs of transport and preservation, it was transported back to Straßberg on August 19, 2010. The wooden channel has been in the Glasebach pit since the museum piece .
