The Dr. Eckert is a retail company based in Berlin and Stuttgart . The focus of the trade is in particular the operation of train station bookshops and the local sale of printed matter such as newspapers and magazines , tobacco products as well as food and beverages at train stations. The group's stores operate under five brand names: the large bookshops are called "Ludwig", the specialist press stores "Eckert", and the tobacco specialist stores "Barbarino". Below the labels “Adam's” and “ON! Express”, the two still young convenience concepts operate. In 2015 around 1400 people were employed across Germany. The group operates around 200 stores nationwide, primarily in the new federal states and in the south-west of Germany. The company was founded in 1928.

In 2011 the group of companies was named Stuttgart's best employer in 2011 .
