term

The term assistive technology is the attempt to translate the English term assistive technology (AT). The Germanized term assistive technology (AT) is often used as a collective term for supporting computer technologies such as screen readers , voice input , magnification software , on-screen keyboard and the like , especially in the IT area around the topic of accessibility . The term assisting technologies is used in the Austrian-speaking world . Rehabilitation technology is another synonym that is also common. In the social and health sector, the English term "assistive technology" is partly translated as a general technical aid based on the German list of medical aids of the statutory health insurance (see Aids (rehabilitation) ).

The English assistive technology as a generic term is somewhat broader and also includes the processes involved in the selection, supply and use of technical aids for people with disabilities. A more correct translation would therefore have to read: assistive technologies and associated processes in rehabilitation .
