Up2date

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

up2date is an update agent that has both a text-based interface and a graphical user interface . Up2date is supplied with the Linux distributions Red Hat Linux (RHL) and Fedora Core and can determine which software packages need to be updated on your own computer or server .

Up2date can also install new software packages and resolve dependencies itself if they are available in the specified repositories .

GPG is used to check the authenticity of the software packages .

While up2date up to Red Hat Linux 9 (RHL) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 2 to 4 accesses the Red Hat Network , which is subject to registration and costs , up2date from Fedora Core 1 to 4 directly uses the specified repositories, which are local Directories , but also YUM and APT sources on the Internet or intranet can be.

In versions 5 of Fedora and RHEL , up2date was replaced by YUM and later its graphical interface PackageKit . The development of up2date has been discontinued.
