Uptown was the title of a free monthly newspaper for house and villa owners in major German cities. It was the first nationwide free newspaper. The title entered the pilot phase in September 2008 and tested its appearance in 51 of the largest cities in Germany with a print run of over 3,012,000 copies. IVW -checked the editions of the Berlin , Hamburg and Munich editions .

At the same time as the print edition of Uptown , the Internet edition appeared at www.uptown-online.de.

Uptown was the title successor to the 1994 publisher Dr. Frank Radtke founded the monthly newspaper Das Grundblatt , which was published in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich until July 2008.

The newspaper's homepage was still online in 2010, but not in 2011, which indicates that the newspaper would be discontinued in one of these two years.

Awards

The pilot edition of Uptown was honored with an Award of Excellence at the European Newspaper Design Contest ( European Newspaper Award ) in 2008, and three more followed in 2009. The newspaper is thus building on the level of its predecessor, Das Grundblatt , which has received several international awards for its visual performance. In 2002 it received the red dot design award for communication design from the North Rhine-Westphalian Center for Design and was honored with a total of 27 Awards of Excellence at the European Newspaper Design Contest from 2001 to 2010.

Outline of the newspaper

Uptown was divided into four newspaper books .

The title book with a focus on society, law and finance was followed by the newspaper section “Urban Econy” on urban development trends in Germany and internationally, as well as economic and infrastructure topics.

The “Home” part was dominated by style, living, architecture and garden themes, followed by “Life etc.”, the uptown magazine.
