Urs Fischbacher

Urs Fischbacher (born September 17, 1959 in Dietikon , Canton of Zurich ) is a Swiss economist and professor of applied economic research at the University of Konstanz . He is the head of the Thurgau Economic Institute , an institute affiliated with the University of Konstanz.

His research areas include experimental economics , behavioral economics and neuroeconomics . He also became known for the development of z-Tree, a programming language for conducting scientific laboratory experiments that is used in numerous research institutions around the world.

Urs Fischbacher is listed by Thomson Reuters in the list “Highly Cited Researchers 2014” as one of the world's most cited scientists. In the FAZ Economists Ranking Research 2014, it took second place. In December 2016, Fischbacher was awarded the Joachim Herz research prize “best research work”. This honored his research on mutuality in social exchange and the development of the z-Tree laboratory software.
