Urs Hugentobler

Urs Hugentobler (* 1959 ) is a Swiss astronomer and geophysicist . He is Professor of Satellite Geodesy at the Technical University of Munich .

Life

Urs Hugentobler studied theoretical physics at the University of Bern until 1989 and, after eight years as a research assistant at the Astronomical Institute of Bern University, received his doctorate in astronomy in 1997 . He then worked for two years in research at the European Space Agency until he was appointed head of the GPS research group and the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern in 1999 . In 2006 he was appointed to the Technical University of Munich , where he has been head of the department since thenSatellite geodesy and the associated research facility is.

Hugentobler's main research area is the precise geodetic application of global navigation satellite systems , especially GPS and Galileo . Furthermore, he has the task of scientifically accompanying the operation of the Geodetic Observatory Wettzell together with the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy .

Hugentobler is a member of the German Geodetic Commission .
