Origin 2010 (own spelling: urSPRUNG 2010 Austrian Jubilee Jamboree ) was an international jamboree , a large- scale camp organized by Lower Austrian and Viennese scouts that took place from August 2 to 12, 2010 in the Laxenburg palace gardens in Austria . The anniversary camp was held for the 100th birthday of the scout movement in Austria and was (after the 7th World Scout Jamboree in Bad Ischl in 1951 ) the second largest scout camp ever held in Austria.

Basic data

At summer camp 6,600 Scouts and over 1,000 people support staff participated. Only the 7th World Scout Jamboree in 1951 in Bad Ischl had more participants in a scout camp in Austria . Children and young people between the ages of 10 and 21 from Austria and 28 other countries came to the camp. In addition to its function as a sleeping place and event location, the camp was the starting point for trips to Lower Austria and Vienna. The camp grounds are 2.5 km long and 1.5 km wide. Over 1,500 tents were set up, 60,000 running meters of poles were delivered, 5 km of water pipes, 15 km of power lines and 5 km of telephone lines were laid. The anniversary camp was organized by the Lower Austrian and Vienna Regional Association of Scouts and Girl Scouts of Austria (PPÖ). The organization requires three and a half years of preparation by around 200 volunteer leaders.

theme

The 100th anniversary was taken as an opportunity to develop ideas and concepts for the next hundred years. For this purpose, a frame story was constructed that contains the main theme for various warehouse activities and to derive various designations, e.g. B. is used for sub-storage. The history of the Ursprung camp was a future conference that takes place every 100 years, to which representatives from different epochs of human history are invited. The Urturm, a 12-meter-high log construction with a viewing platform and stage as the central meeting point, was a landmark of the camp.

Attendees

The different age groups were organized in separate areas.

Guides and scouts (10 to 13 years old)

In the camp of guides and scouts (10 to 13 years) with 1,900 children, called GnUrPS at the origin , the focus was on adventure. With 450 accompanying scout leaders and 160 other employees, the children built fire pits, cooked together over an open fire, slept in the tent and discovered new skills. In ten sub-camps, the children from Austria, Germany and South Tyrol had the opportunity to experience the programs together, although the camp language at this age group is German.

Caravelles and Explorer (13 to 16 years old)

Among the 13- to 16-year-olds, referred to by the scouts as Caravelles and Explorer, with a total of 2,220 people, there were almost 500 visitors from Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Hong Kong, Israel and the USA. 100 volunteer adults ensured that everything ran smoothly. The motto of the programs for this age group was “join in instead of participating”. Tables, cooking rings, deck chairs, gates, swings, etc. were built by ourselves. Various activities outside the camp in Lower Austria and Vienna (hiking, climbing, sailing, canoeing, culture, film, technology) were on the plan.

Ranger and Rover (16 to 21 years old)

1,100 young people, the rangers and rovers between 16 and 21 years of age, organized in small groups (rotten), who choose their preferred cooking unit (galley) with around 25 people, were focused on the offsite activities. Approx. 40 activities were offered for the surrounding federal states. The largest urban terrain game of all time, the "WUrsSTSEMMEL MONOPOLY" took place in Vienna with over 1,000 RaRo. The young people explored Vienna, the world of legends, familiarized themselves with local specialties and experienced a giant puzzle adventure rally under the motto of the Wurstsemmel ("Wurstsemmel Monopoly")

The camp was visited by many prominent guests from politics and business, including the Federal President of Austria ( Heinz Fischer ). An estimated 20,000 guests, mostly members of the boy scouts, came to the camp on visitor Sunday.
