Ursula Bredel

Ursula Bredel (born 1965 ) is a German linguist.

Life

Ursula Bredel studied German and subject pedagogy and, in a supplementary course, linguistics, modern German literature and education. After passing the 2nd state examination, she worked as a teacher from 1993 to 1997. From 1995 to 1998 she was a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin and received her doctorate there in 1997. From 1998 to 2002 Bredel was a research assistant at the University of Cologne and from 2002 professor for linguistics at the Karlsruhe University of Education . She completed her habilitation in 2004 at the University of Karlsruhe . In 2005 she became professor for the German language and its didactics at the University of Cologne. Since 2010 she has been professor for the German language and its didactics at the University of Hildesheim . Bredel has been a member of the German Linguistic Society (DGfS) since 1999 .

Bredel publishes on text linguistics, orthography and grammar. Her research interests also include simple language, gender issues and the integration of literary and language didactics.

Bredel was accepted into the German Academy for Language and Poetry in 2018 .
