Founding legend

Uru Katshel is a monastery dating back to one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Tibet. It is said to have been built in the 7th century under Songtsen Gampo as one of a total of twelve geomantic ( Feng Shui ) temples called "Thadül" (tib .: mtha '' dul ) and "Yangdül" (tib .: yang 'dul ) whom the giant demon Sinmo (Tib .: srin mo ) should be tamed. Uru Katshel stood here on Sinmos right shoulder, Thradrug in Nêdong Dzong on her left shoulder and the Jokhang in Lhasa on her heart.

In the 14th century, the old temple of Drigung Bama Rinpoche Phüntsog (tib .: 'bri gung ba ma rin po che phun tshogs ) was integrated into a monastery of the Drigung-Kagyüpa (tib .: ' bri gung bka 'brgyud pa ). transformed.
