Usa River is a collection of settlements and agricultural properties in northern Tanzania .
location
The place is located in the Arusha district, about 20 km east of the city of Arusha and 30 km west of Kilimanjaro International Airport on the main road to Moshi . Around 13,500 people live in the catchment area of the settlement (as of 2002).
Naming
The name was originally given to a larger bridge over the Usa River . A name plaque was put up there in the 1950s and added "River" for clarity. The name initially only referred to a stopping point for buses and shared taxis, but was then adopted by the population as a collective term for the surrounding settlements on the southern slope of Mount Meru .
economy
The place is particularly important because of its fertile soils and intensive agriculture. In addition, several middle and upper class hotels offer numerous accommodations, especially for tourists traveling to Arusha National Park and mountaineers on the way to Mount Meru.
