geography
course
The Ussa begins near the village Taukany ( Belarusian Таўканы ), at the height of Minsk and flows south. Then it opens 2km northeast of Ljubtscha ( Belarusian Любча ) in the Memel. This makes it the first major tributary of the Memel. After the confluence with the Ussa, the Memel enlarges considerably.
The Ussa flows through the Waloschynski rajon ( Belarusian Валожынскі раён ), along the south-western slopes of the Minsk Plateau ( Belarusian Мінскае ўзвышша ), further through the Nalibozkaja Puschtscha ( Belarusian Нчалібоцкая ).
The upper reaches of the valley have the shape of a trapezoid, with a width of 0.8–1 km. Over a length of 1.5 km near the village of Drasdouschtschyna ( Belarusian Драздоўшчына ) it narrows to 0.2 km. The river bed has a width of 0.1 to 0.15 km in the upper and lower reaches. In the lower and middle course it is surrounded by wetlands, the rest of the course is dry. The bed has a width of 8-10 m for the last 20 km before the mouth, as it is canalized for the rest of the course.
