Uta Rensch

Uta Rensch (born June 28, 1952 in Baalsdorf near Leipzig ) is a German local politician ( SPD ). From 2001 to 2008 she was mayor of the large district town of Freiberg .

Life

After graduating from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Freiberg (Saxony), Rensch studied physical metal science at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg from 1971 to 1975 and graduated in 1975 as a graduate engineer. From 1975 to 1986 she was a scientific assistant in the physics and technology section of electronic components at the TH Ilmenau . In 1983 she received her doctorate there on the subject of the investigation of the structure formation of thin aluminum nitride layers on monocrystalline silicon as a doctoral engineer for electronics materials technology.

From 1986 to 1991 she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Non-Ferrous Metals in Freiberg. From 1991 to 1994 she worked as a lecturer for adult qualifications at the Freiberg Computer Education Center. From 1994 to 1997 she worked at the Umwelttechnik Technologiezentrum Freiberg. From 1997 to 2001 she worked as a research assistant in research projects at the Technical University of Bergakademie Freiberg. During her academic career, she wrote about 15 publications in specialist journals . Rensch has been a member of the SPD since 2000. In 2001, she was elected Lord Mayor of Freiberg to succeed Konrad Heinze (CDU). In the second round of the mayoral election on June 22, 2008, she lost to the non-party candidate Bernd-Erwin Schramm . Since March 2009 Rensch has been managing director of the state excellence initiative for functional structural design of new high-performance materials through atomic design and defect engineering (ADDE) at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Rensch has been married since 1974, widowed since 2019 and has two children.
