Hiroshige II was a student and adopted son of Andō Hiroshige. He may have helped with the final works of his master. Thus, from the series “ 100 famous views of Edo ” come from sheet 119, “Rain evening. Paulownia Garden of Akasaka ”and some other leaves probably from him. He himself initially used the stage name Shigenobu, but after Hiroshige's death he married his daughter in 1859 and took over his name.

In the following three years Hiroshige worked tirelessly to draw the series "100 Famous Views from Different Provinces" ( 諸国 名 所 百 景 , Shokoku meishō hakkei ). - His wife, 20 years his junior, was not doing well: around 1865 the marriage was dissolved. Hiroshige retired to Yokohama and again used the stage name Shigenobu, but also the name Kisai-Ryusho. He painted tea caddies and lanterns that were intended for export. This is how he got his nickname " Tea Caddy Hiroshige " ( 茶 箱 広 重 , Chabako Hiroshige )

Hiroshige's work is of very different quality. His prints are good imitations of those of his master at best, but much is hastily made and superficial. His paintings, however, come close to those of his master.
