The Ute-und-Wolfram-Neumann-Foundation has dedicated itself to the preservation and maintenance of book culture - also in relation to other media - by examining the origin, meaning and influence of literary book series on education and awareness and making it known to a wider public.

Neumann Collection

The core of the foundation is the Neumann Collection. It is the result of many years of research and collecting by Ute and Wolfram Neumann and consists of almost all copies of a large part of the book series that were published in German-speaking countries in the 20th century (and beyond).

The collection now consists of approx. 1850 book series with a total of approx. 30,000 volumes. Historically, it extends from the Empire to the Weimar Republic , the Hitler dictatorship , the division of Germany to reunification and into the present day. Some very early series collected here go back to the first half of the 19th century and even to the late 18th century. The collection also serves as source material for literary-sociological and cultural-historical research, especially at the University of Magdeburg .

The series include u. A .: series Pandora , series Piper , shuttle , sailor library of art history , Schocken Books . One of the special items in the collection is the Insel-Bücherei , which is presented here in full, including volume 313. The edition of this volume - Wolfgang Kayser : Gedichte des Barock Leipzig 1943 - was almost completely destroyed when the publishing house was destroyed in the Second World War (1943) .

Anna Seghers The Seventh Cross from 1948 is part of the collection of the Neumann Foundation in the Magdeburg University Library.

The Neumann Foundation's book series was handed over in 2003 on the occasion of the new building of the Magdeburg University Library . It is located in a total of 12 blocks of shelves in the public area of ​​the library (first floor) and can be viewed there daily. The books in this collection can be viewed in the catalog of the Magdeburg University Library under here (shelf mark group “STN”).

Paul Lindaus The trial of 1985 is part of the collection of the Neumann Foundation in the Magdeburg University Library.

The foundation's research activities have resulted in several exhibitions at the Magdeburg University Library. a .:
