Uterus septus

The uterus septus is a malformation of the uterus with a septum (septum) that divides the uterine cavity ( cavum uteri ) into two halves. The surface of the uterus is not changed.

Classification

Depending on the extent of the subdivision, the following subdivision is common:

  • Uterus septus, complete septation of the corpus uteri up to the cervix
  • Uterus subseptus, incomplete septation
    • Uterus subseptus unicollis: septum only in the body area
    • Uterus subseptus unicorporeus: Septum only in the cervical area

root cause

It is based on a disorder in embryonic development in which the partition wall has not or only incompletely been resorbed after the two Müller ducts have merged.

distribution

The septal uterus is the most common uterine malformation.

diagnosis

The diagnosis is usually made by sonography .

Differential diagnosis

Other uterine malformations are to be distinguished, especially the bicornuate uterus .
