List of apple varieties |
The Uttwiler Spätlauber is a commercial apple variety from Switzerland that has been known since around 1750. The exact naming is important because there are several apple varieties with the name Spätlauber. Much more important than its ancestry, however, is its paramount importance for the cosmetics industry. All late-leaf apple varieties have in common that they have late leaf shoots or late leaf fall.
description
The Uttwiler Spätlauber is a cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ). It is also a cider and kitchen apple with the main distribution in Thurgau ( Switzerland ). The expert opinions about his parentage differ: If you refer to the open fruit variety database , the Uttwiler Spätlauber is a random seedling from Uttwil .
tree
The Uttwiler Spätlauber grows strong and healthy. He has few demands on soil and climate. The tree thrives best in moderately moist soil in a warm climate with dry, sunny summers. The Uttwiler Spätlauber wears early and likes. It is not uncommon for flowers to form on the summer shoot.
fruit
The fruit is mostly round, decreasing a little more towards the calyx. The skin is smooth, shiny, green, only turning greenish yellow late. Fruits in good sunshine show a hint of brownish redness. The meat is firm and crisp, like the Golden Delicious or the Idared . It is also sour with weak spices. It reaches its picking maturity in mid-October and can be stored for up to a year. The skin then turns brown-black. It is considered a tart all-purpose apple.
distribution
Uttwiler Spätlauber is a rare apple variety today. It is integrated into Switzerland's National Action Plan for the Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources in Food and Agriculture (NAP-PGREL).
Use in the cosmetics industry
The plant stem cell extract of the Uttwiler Spätlaubers is used today in many cosmetic anti-wrinkle and anti-aging care products. It was developed by Mibelle Biochemistry between 2004 and 2008 and has been manufactured and sold under the name PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica since 2008.
