history

In 1926, Philipp M. Winter founded the Philipp M. Winter Optical Industry Institute in Fürth-Poppenreuth and initially traded in all kinds of protective goggles . In 1936 the company moved to its headquarters in downtown Fürth . In 1962 the company was transformed into the Winter Society for Optics and Eye Protection, and Winter's son, Rainer Winter, took over the management. He also invented the brand name uvex, an acronym for “ u ltra v iolet ex cluded”, based on the sunglasses feature UV protection.

From 1970 the company expanded internationally with its own production and sales. In 1994 the current holding structure was introduced.

In 1999 Michael Winter became managing partner of uvex Winter Holding.

In 2009, the headquarters in Fürth was expanded and the business areas were expanded to include additional product groups, e.g. for equestrian sports .
