Uwe Fleckner

Uwe Fleckner (* 1961 ) is a German art historian .

Life

Fleckner studied art history, philosophy and German studies in Bochum and Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1991 with a thesis on the portraits of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres . From 1997 to 2002 he was deputy director of the German Forum for Art History in Paris . From 2002 to 2004 he was a professor at the Free University of Berlin . Since 2004 Fleckner has been professor of art history at the University of Hamburg and director of the Warburg House . He is co-editor of the collected works of Carl Einstein and Aby Warburg .

His work focuses on art and art theory, especially German and French art from the 18th century to the present, research on Carl Einstein and Aby Warburg, the genre of the portrait, political iconography and the history of so-called degenerate art .
