Väderstad-Verken AB is a manufacturer of agricultural machinery based in Väderstad , in the Swedish municipality of Mjölby . The company has an annual turnover of around 158 million euros, which is generated by around 800 employees.
Products
The product groups consist of sowing technology and soil cultivation equipment. When it comes to sowing, they have specialized in grain seed drills. For tillage, Väderstad offers various types of cultivators and rollers.
history
The company's history begins in 1962, when Rune and Siw Stark had problems with the heavy soil around Väderstad. It was customary for the floor to be towed with a wooden beam. However, this had to be replaced every year due to wear, so the Stark's built a steel version with an adjustable angle of attack. Agricultural technology production began with the construction of the device for neighboring farmers.
In 1966 the Schleppe was converted into a kind of cultivator and a foldable version with a larger working width was developed at the same time. In 1967 they moved from the barn to a larger workshop. Since the only telephone line was often busy, customers used telegrams to get in touch with the then boss Rune Stark.
In 1972 the current production site was moved into. The company was now called Väderstad-Verken AB. Since the early summer of 1975 was comparatively dry, the heavy Väderstad machines have now also proven themselves on German soil in Schleswig-Holstein.
In the early days of the company, the Mjölby-Väderstad railway was crucial for material and machine transport. Due to financial problems, their operation was stopped in 1990.
Also in 1990 the company presented its first seed drills.
In 2006, Väderstad bought 49% of the Canadian manufacturer Seed Hawk , which claims to build the widest seed drills in the world. The export share is around 85%.
On April 24, 2013, a precision planter of the Tempo type set a world record for sowing maize.
