Värmlands Museum is the provincial museum of the Swedish province of Värmland . The museum in Karlstad has the task of documenting and conveying the history, art and cultural heritage of the province of Värmland.

The museum was opened in 1929 after the completion of the museum building, designed by the architect Cyrillus Johansson . In 1988 an outbuilding was built.

The museum has three basic exhibitions:

  • an exhibition on the history of Värmland
  • an art exhibition on Värmland art with a focus on the 20th century
  • a science center with an experimental workshop.

In addition, temporary exhibitions are regularly organized.

The museum also has four branches

  • Dyvelstens flottningsmuseum in Forshaga , which takes up the history of rafting on Klarälven from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
  • from Echstedtska gården in Västra Smedsbyn , a rococo-style manor
  • Långbans gruvby in Långban , a disused mine and ironworks that are now industrial monuments.
  • Torsby Finnkulturcentrum in Torsby , which brings to life the cultural heritage of the Finnish settlers who came to the area in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The museum had around 240,000 visitors in 2011.
