Värska is a former rural community in the Estonian district of Põlva with an area of 187.7 km². It had 1399 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2006). Since 2017, Värska has been part of the newly formed rural community Setomaa and therefore moved to Võru County .
Villages
In addition to the main town of Värska (635 inhabitants) belonged to the municipality of the villages Koidula , Kolodavitsa , Kolossova , Korela , Kostkova , Kremessova , Kundruse , Litvina , Lobotka , Lutepää , Määsovitsa , Matsuri , Nedsaja , Õrsava , Pattina , Perdaku , Podmotsa , Popovitsa , Rääptsova , Saabolda , Saatse , Säpina , Samarina , Sesniki , Tonja , Treski , Ulitina , Vaartsi , Väike-Rõsna , Vedernika , Velna , Verhulitsa , Võpolsova and Voropi .
Setukesian culture
Värska is the center of Setumaa and the Setouese culture in Estonia. The place has been documented since 1585. The oldest film footage from Värska is from 1912 from the documentary Retk läbi Setumaa ( Walk through Setumaa ) by the Estonian film pioneer Johannes Pääsuke (1892–1918). The mineral waters of Värska and the calm landscape shaped by rivers and lakes are famous .
