Värtan train station

Värtans station is a station on the Karlberg / Tomteboda – Värtan ( Swedish Värtabanan ) railway in Stockholm , which has been closed since 1913 .

history

The architect of the station building was the chief architect of the architectural office of the State Railways ( Statens Järnvägars arkitektkontor ) Adolf Wilhelm Edelsvärd . The station was built in 1882.

At the beginning, the station building was housed in a small wooden villa on today's Sandhamnsplan. Shortly after the railway line opened in 1882, the villa was replaced by the brick station building.

The shape of the building is reminiscent of the H-shaped mansions in the early 1700s, the entrance to the ticket hall is covered by the balcony on the second floor. The window frames and corners of the building in light plaster offer a visual contrast to the brick-red house. The station master had a large apartment on the second floor . At the same time he was the postman from Värtan .

Usage today

When passenger traffic was discontinued in 1913, the station building became superfluous due to a lack of passengers because it was not needed for goods traffic . The post office was housed there until the 1970s and Svenska Järnvägsklubben used it as a home for a while. Today the house is used as an office building.

The station building was added to the list of culturally and historically valuable buildings and monuments ( Swedish Byggnadsminne ).
